About the event

On Wednesday, March 23 at the East Rec Center and on Zoom, 6:30 social gathering and 7:00 PM video, the Oakmont Progressives will show a video lecture by Prof. John Mearsheimer of the University of Chicago and host a discussion of U. S. involvement with Ukraine and the background of Russia's brutal aggression against its neighbor state.

We are witnessing, for the first time in almost 70 years, the nightmare of a land war in Europe, where one powerful country is attempting to take over a smaller state and rearrange borders.  The war has generated almost 2 million refugees, and human suffering beyond measure. But wars don't suddenly arise out of nowhere, so Prof Mearsheimer will explore the policy decisions and actions by Russia and the Western powers that have led up to this tragedy.  After the video lecture, we will host an open discussion of the situation and explore what we can learn and how we might help the Ukrainians.

The event is open to all Oakmont residents and guests. Since seating is limited, we request that those planning to attend in person RSVP at www.oakmontprogressives.org.  Zoom link:  https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83585994136?pwd=V1hDZFdyVlVuWGxoUTc1TTlKdnNaQT09
