Workers Will Picket at Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn

Over 200 Workers and Community Allies Will Picket to Alert the Public That Luxury Resort Has No Union Contract

WHO: Approx. 250 Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn workers and community members.

WHAT: Picket and leafleting to alert the public that the Fairmont Sonoma has no union contract with UNITE HERE Local 2.

WHEN: Friday, November 10, 2023, 5pm-7pm.

WHERE: Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn, 100 Boyes Blvd., Sonoma, CA 95476 (parking available at Parson’s Hardware at 17800 Sonoma Highway, La Michoacana at 18495 Sonoma Highway, Fiesta Plaza at 18615 Sonoma Highway, and La Favorita at 17484 Sonoma Highway).

VISUALS: Hotel workers marching in uniform with picket signs and bullhorns in front of luxury resort.

WHY: Workers at the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa will picket outside their hotel to alert the public that workers do not have a union contract with UNITE HERE Local 2.

Rooms at the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn start at $619, while rooms at the Fairmont San Francisco start at $274,[1] but housekeepers at the Fairmont Sonoma make $7.10/hour less than union housekeepers at the Fairmont San Francisco. Dishwashers make $7.01/hour less, and cooks make $7.81/hour less.

When workers at the Fairmont Sonoma started organizing for good jobs, safety, and respect, the hotel responded with a vicious anti-union campaign. Region 20 of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) found evidence sufficient to prosecute 43 alleged labor law violations related to the hotel’s union-busting campaign. In May 2023, the NLRB approved a settlement with the Fairmont Sonoma and UNITE HERE Local 2, and so no evidentiary hearing was held.t

The Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn is owned by Brookfield Asset Management
